Job Summary
The American Queen Steamboat Company is looking for a Head Bartender/Bar Supervisor to live and work aboard the American Queen. This person will report directly to the Food and Beverage Manager onboard. The Head Bartender/Bar Supervisor will have full responsibility of all bar and beverage outlets aboard the American Queen. They will supervise all Bar and Beverage staff in achieving the highest standard of quality service.
Essential Functions: The following are essential functions of the position but are not all inclusive.
- Work closely with the Food and Beverage Manager and other department managers to ensure quality service from all beverage servers.
- Supervise and oversee new employee training.
- Ensure that all bar operations are in full compliance with all company, United States Coast Guard and Drug and Alcohol policies, rules and regulations at all times.
- Hold departmental meetings with employees.
- Responsible for daily and weekly cost control and waste control.
- Responsible for all liquor and beverage costs.
- Supervise all cleaning and sanitation procedures according to company policy.
- Supervise all activities related to alcohol and beverage service.
- Create daily work schedule for employees
- Departmental crew evaluations.
- Supervise and maintain company grooming and uniform policies.
- Responsible for weekly inventories and ordering supplies.
- Supervise and train all employees on bar and beverage equipment.
- Responsible for all maintenance and follow-up on broken or inoperable equipment.
- Responsible for all disciplinary procedures with the beverage department.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Maintain a favorable working relationship with all department managers and employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment.
- Supervise all special on-board passenger functions requiring alcohol or beverage
- Perform other tasks as deemed necessary by my supervisor
- Manning fire/emergency station and lifeboat station as assigned.
- Participate in fire and abandon vessel drills.
Qualifications:
- College degree preferred; 5-7 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
- Excellent communication skills; reading, writing and verbally in the English language.
- Ability to interact with crew and passengers in a pleasant, professional and polite manner.
- Must have a clean, neat, professional appearance.
- Able to work long hours, at least 12 hours per day, and stand for long periods of time.
- Live and work in a small enclosed environment.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
- Proficient in Microsoft computer applications.
- Proficient in Point of Sale system software
- Experience in Bar and Beverage service in large 5 star hotel cruise environment.
- Responsible for the on board wine program, wine training and overview of the complimentary wine offerings.
