Nestled amidst the splendor of Virginia's Allegheny Mountains lies The Homestead, one of the country's premier mountain resorts since 1766. A National Historic Landmark situated on more than 2,000 acres, The Homestead features 483 guest rooms including 88 suites, and 28 meeting rooms totaling 72,000 square feet of indoor dedicated meeting space. The resort includes a world class spa fed by natural hot springs rated among Top Ten Spas by SpaFinder, Inc.; Three golf courses including the Cascades, rated among the top 15 Best Resort Courses by Golfweek and top 25 Greatest Public Courses by Golf Digest; and ten food & beverage options. The resort also features the legendary Jefferson Pools, our naturally warm mineral pools established in 1760 and made famous by Thomas Jefferson's visits beginning in 1818.
Summer activities on site include 6 tennis courts, outdoor pool and indoor naturally heated indoor pool, an 8 lane bowling alley, equestrian show ground and stables, carriage rides, trout fishing and Orvis endorsed fly fishing school, shooting club featuring skeet, trap and sporting clays, a 270 seat theater featuring nightly films, 19 retail shops, falconry, paintball, mountain biking, and Cascades Gorge hiking. Winter activities include 45 acres of downhill skiing featuring the Sepp Kober ski and bunny school, snowboarding, an Olympic sized ice skating rink, and snow tubing park.
The Homestead's next chapter is underway. in 2012 a 2 acre expansion of Allegheny Springs (our outdoor pool complex) and a new lobby bar were completed. Current projects include a complete restoration and expansion of America's original destination Spa (opened in 1892) which will reopen in 2013 as the Canyon Ranch Spa Club at the Homestead.
This spring the Casino Restaurant will be renovated and reopened as the Canyon Ranch Cafe. The Player's Pub will be renovated, and the 1766 Grille and President's Lounge is currently undergoing renovation to reopen later this spring featuring a new kitchen, added outdoor seating, and a menu featuring regional farm to table fare in a family friendly environment.
The Homestead currently has an opportunity for a Sous Chef to lead the Culinary team at Sam Snead's Tavern .
This position reports to the Executive Sous Chef and will lead the Culinary team at Sam Snead's Tavern. It is expected that the Sous Chef will be placed no later than April 1st. The Sous Chef will hold primary responsibility for ensuring food quality and for menu development in the Tavern.
Qualified candidates will possess extensive culinary training and preparation background. A minimum of one two years experience at a similar culinary level within a resort, hotel or restaurant is required.
