Busy Tempe hotel seeks an experienced Director of Sales. This is not an entry level position and you must be a strong performer to succeed. The hotel is located near many of Phoenix/Tempe attractions and landmarks in a very competitive area. Candidates with Tempe experience will be given preference, but all strong candidates will receive consideration.

The Director of Sales is responsible for total revenue strategies, implementation and results, including group and transient rooms, group food and beverage, meeting room rental, local catering.  Strategies will include market mix, pricing and direct sales.  Maximize profitability for the hotel and outstanding quality service for the customers.  Accountable to market performance and potential performance as well as budget, forecast, and target goals.  Participate in total hotel management as a member of the hotel Executive Committee.

 

  • Must have recent Hotel Sales Management experience
  • Direct and manage all group, transient, and catering/banquet sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel.
  • Prepare, implement and compile data for the strategic sales plan, monthly report, annual goals, sales and marketing budget, forecasts and other reports as directed/required.
  • Develop rates, group ceilings and deployment strategies through review of competitive data, demand analysis and mix management in tandem with GM and Revenue Manager
  • Recruit, direct, manage, train and counsel sales staff. Oversee departmental matters as they relate to federal, state and local employment and civil rights laws.
  • Actively participate in sales presentations, property tours and client meetings.
  • Conduct/attend daily business review meetings, weekly strategic sales meetings, management meetings and other meetings as required/ requested.
  • Work with Regional Director of Sales on all advertising, public relations and promotional activities.
  • Stay informed on market changes and competitive set hotels business.
  • Proactively plan so that the hotel maintains its share of the market as indicated by the STAR report and meets budgeted numbers approved by Ownership and Management.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.  In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the hotel:

  •  Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events.
  •  Participate as team player with other key management associates.
  •  Provide constructive feedback to all departments and to hotel sales and marketing staff.
  •  Be a leader and role model to all associates.
  •  Additional duties as necessary and assigned.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

At a minimum you must meet the following requirements and aptitudes:

  •  Familiarity with Social Media website and communication functions
  •  Microsoft Office Products – including Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and other
  •  Typing (prefer at least 50 wpm)
  •  Ability to read and decipher sales and sales related reports, such as STAR
  •  Ability to read and decipher a financial statement for the Sales department
  •  Ability and knowledge that will allow you to fully use and administrate our Sales Tracking system, Delphi
  •  Ability to manage, provide the appropriate tools, and hold accountable a Sales team to perform at maximum efficiency
