The Director of Sales and Marketing is responsible for long term planning and day-to-day managing/overseeing of all sales, groups, catering and marketing functions/duties within the hotel and leads a staff of five. The staff consists of one Sales and Catering Administrative person, one Corporate Sales Manager, one Social Events/Certified Wedding Manager, one Social Media Coordinator and one Catering Director. In addition, must work closely with the Food and Beverage Manager, Banquet Manager and Front Office Manager. The applicant must be able to motivate a team in a fun environment with a proven track record in developing team members to achieve/exceed revenue goals, guest and associate satisfaction and the financial performance of the department, while holding the team accountable.
Duties include assisting the General Manager in developing annual budgets and marketing plans; monitoring and analyzing local competition and market trends, preparing and reviewing business forecasts; motivating, training and retaining skilled sales team; continually assessing team performances against budget, goals and guest satisfaction standards. Function professionally as a liaison with community organizations, committees etc. and represents the hotel at community events as appropriate.
- Minimum of 5 years hotel sales experience.
- 3+ years as Director of Sales and Marketing or Hotel Senior Sales Manager in the Hospitality Industry
- Must be able to work through IHG Brand (Intercontinental Hotels Group) corporate level to maximize revenue through collaboration with National Accounts and Group Organizations.
- Prior sales experience at a convention hotel is preferred.
- Appropriate Degree in Business Management, Hotel Management or related field.
- Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices within the sales/marketing/hospitality profession.
- Experience in Catering Sales with a thorough knowledge and understanding of hotel operations.
- A solid foundation in Revenue Management and Forecasting.
- Experience in analyzing the competition, sales activities and market trends.
- Experience in advertising and marketing within the hotel industry through a variety of media avenues including Social Media and E-mail Blasts.
- Experienced and proven success in industry trade shows and sales blitzes.
- Skilled at establishing strong relationships with customers and internal partners promoting trust and confidence.
- Must be able to travel and work extended hours which may include Holidays and weekends as needed to achieve department goals.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proven success record through skilled negotiations/interpretations of contracts and closing the deal.
