Director of Design
Location: US - CA - San Mateo/San Francisco
We are seeking a talented Director of Design to direct, coordinate and manage all design activities for a portfolio of new and existing residential communities that includes thousands of deluxe apartments and over one million square feet of retail and commercial office space. This position will help design brand design standards and implement ongoing brand aesthetic policy. Oversee design design/physical brand and product experience at all existing properties. Create and generate new concepts and design ideas in preparation for operation execution. Update and keep current Brand Standards Guide for new and existing communities. Develop company-wide quality assurance program to monitor and measure consistent experience. Develop complete design package for interior design for renovation projects. Oversee specification and budget projections and management of design intent and quality during execution. Manage design requests and project manage implementation of design solutions within project budget and timeline. Attend status meetings. Participate in due diligence in acquisitions of existing assets. Oversee delivery of all physical brand and product experience for all properties. This position reports jointly to Senior VP of Portfolio Management and to Executive VP of Development. Annual salary range of $85K-$125K plus 10%-20% annual bonus.
Minimum 7+ years of design related experience. Minimum of 4+ years of supervisory experience. Must be able to plan, design and furnish interiors of residential and commercial spaces. Must be able to read and analyze architectural blueprints and be able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Must be able to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals in addition to the ability to write copy and create budget pieces. Must be able to effectively supervise outside vendors. Must be self-motivated, work in a collaborative style and drive for closure. Must be computer proficient with Windows, MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, OneSite and the internet. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Access, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and other graphic applications. Must be a great communicator, team oriented, entrepreneurial, passionate, a self-starter, creative, principled/ethical, and a Brand Ambassador. Must make periodic visits to all properties to identify design opportunities and to ensure quality and brand strategy are achieved. Must be a seasoned team player with proven leadership experience. Must have excellent communication skills and have excellent planning, time management and organization skills.
