San Francisco, California
The story of Hotel Triton is Pop Culture.
Sprung from the imaginations of San Francisco artisans, Hotel Triton was created to be an experience full of whimsy, fun, and inspiration... POP goes the Triton.
Popular culture, a term first coined in the 50's with the birth of the Beatnik era in San Francisco, is an expression of our daily lives perpetuated and cultivated through fashion, music, and the arts. Contrasting with elitist culture, pop culture has evolved through the decades. In the 60's, pop culture played a major influence in the art world with Andy Warhol defining the term "pop art" himself. In the 70's, music heavily reflected the country's conflict with the Vietnam War. The 90's saw reality television weaving the lives of ordinary people into the collective cultural consciousness. And, in the first decade of the new millennium, the internet has allowed anyone, at any time, to become a piece of popular culture with a click to sites like myspace, blogspot, and youtube. At Hotel Triton we aim to be a colorful playground for everything pop. We are an ardent supporter of the local arts community by serving as a showcase for emerging artists - when you visit, check out our rotating gallery of art on the Mezzanine Level. Make sure to also take in the Kari Pei lobby mural containing many key "pop" moments in history from Jefferson Airplane's influential psychedelic album recorded at the height of the 60's Haight Ashbury era to famous Bay Area artists, Wayne Thiebaud and Richard Diebenkorn. You can also sleep with a celebrity at Hotel Triton as we were the first hotel to let celebrities such as Jerry Garcia and Santana design suites with personal touches such as artwork, quotes, concert memorabilia, photographs, and personally selected amenities. At our complimentary evening wine hour, we'll aim to relax, inspire, and amuse you with fun elements such as Dr. Suess books, relevant music, or a reading of your tarot cards or astrological sign.
