Catering chef positions are perfect for professionals who have formal culinary training and wish to apply their skills in the catering industry. While long hours are often a requirement for this role, the job can be creative, stimulating and exciting. A professional who enjoys hands-on customer service and has great people skills may enjoy catering sales. Hotels and banquet hall establishments hire catering sales staff to promote their services, work with potential clients and meet food and beverage sales goals.

As of January 2012, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the leisure and hospitality industry, including hotels and other establishments and companies providing catering services, employs 13.5 million professionals. Jobs within the industry, including catering jobs, have increased by more than 44,000 since December 2011. Catering jobs are expected to increase ten percent by 2018. In addition, frequent turnover within the industry creates a continuous demand from new employees.
