Catering Jobs

Catering jobs are ideal for a variety of job seekers. Jobs in catering are also plentiful, and expected to become even more so in the foreseeable future. Whether you love to cook, excel at customer service or have a gift for coordinating events, you will find numerous catering employment opportunities at Hcareers.

Hcareers is a growing job board for companies advertising catering positions and professionals seeking employment in the catering industry. Job seekers will frequently find catering job opportunities in management and catering sales as well as positions such as director of catering, catering coordinator and catering assistant. Those who enjoy hands-on culinary and service positions may be interested in catering careers as a server or chef.

Hotels are one of the top employers of catering professionals. Entry-level catering jobs within hotels are often available and require little formal training. In fact, hotels employ many younger workers and first-time workers in part-time and seasonal positions. Service occupations, including catering work, account for nearly 66 percent of the positions within the hotel industry. PKF Hospitality Research expects hotel employment, which includes catering jobs, to see an average increase of 25,000 positions by the end of 2012 alone.

Educational requirements for most catering jobs are unspecific. Many catering managers prefer employees with at least a high school degree for server and bar staff positions. These roles are often filled by young people with little to no previous work experience or by other professionals who are taking on a second job. Professionals with degrees in hospitality or food service management often fill catering management and director roles. Some find their catering jobs through internships held while in school. While specialized degrees are frequently preferred, graduates with degrees in other fields may often be recruited to fill positions.

Catering management and director positions are ideal for professionals with managerial skills and an interest in supervising a food service business. Never boring, the role may involve selecting and managing vendors and suppliers, setting schedules, recruiting new employees and handling payroll.

Catering chef positions are perfect for professionals who have formal culinary training and wish to apply their skills in the catering industry. While long hours are often a requirement for this role, the job can be creative, stimulating and exciting. A professional who enjoys hands-on customer service and has great people skills may enjoy catering sales. Hotels and banquet hall establishments hire catering sales staff to promote their services, work with potential clients and meet food and beverage sales goals.

As of January 2012, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the leisure and hospitality industry, including hotels and other establishments and companies providing catering services, employs 13.5 million professionals. Jobs within the industry, including catering jobs, have increased by more than 44,000 since December 2011. Catering jobs are expected to increase ten percent by 2018. In addition, frequent turnover within the industry creates a continuous demand from new employees.

If you are conducting a catering job search, these predictions serve as an excellent indicator of your chances of success. Whether you are looking for your first job in catering or are interested in a more senior position, visit the Hcareers job board frequently to find the best opportunities.
